Upgrades to PHP 5.3 scheduled for tonight
The switch is scheduled to begin at approximately 22:00 GMT today.
It is expected that there will only be a very short period of downtime (less than 10 minutes) during the changeover.
A further announcement will be made when the upgrade has been completed.
As detailed previously, for a period of 60 days it is possible (in the event of problems) to revert a site back to PHP 5.2. After this period support for PHP5.2 will be withdrawn, so it is important to ensure all incompatible php scripts are fixed and tested in good time.
If you have any questions about this, please get in touch
Hosting – how to switch back to PHP 5.2
For a period of 60 days after the changeover to PHP5.3, due to happen on January 10th 2012 it will be possible to switch accounts back to 5.2 by adding the following line to /home/account/.htaccess, where account is the username you log in to cpanel with:
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php52 .php
Note that after this period this will stop working and the account will be forced to use PHP 5.3
Advance Notice – upgrade to PHP 5.3
On Tuesday 10th January 2012 all servers will be switched from PHP version 5.2 to 5.3.
As PHP 5.2 has been “end of life” for some time now, an upgrade is necessary in order to maintain server security.
